Inherit the Wind
Directed by Barbara Williams
May 20 to June 5, 2016
The 4th production of the 2016 Season
Written by: Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee
This play is a story that fictionalizes the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial as a means to discuss the then-contemporary McCarthy trials. In the 1920s, a Tennessee schoolteacher is put on trial for violating the Butler Act, a state law that prohibits public school teachers from teaching evolution instead of creationism. This draws intense national attention in the media, and causes two of the nation’s leading lawyers go head to head.
